DETAIL Prize 2016

For the seventh time, DETAIL is awarding the international DETAIL Prize.
The declared aim of the DETAIL Prize is to highlight the importance of architecture for society, to strengthen the role of architects in public, and to promote networking among architects, industrialists, developers and politicians.
The judges are looking for realizations in which the overall design concept and the detailing are brought together in a coherent way. The DETAIL Prize awards future-oriented, innovative projects from different disciplines that go beyond the established standard. They should display outstanding architectural and technical qualities and offer solutions of the type generally seen in the DETAIL journal.

Entries must be submitted online from 17 May to 30 June 2016. The DETAIL editorial team will nominate the most compelling projects from all the entries. The projects will be assigned to the respective categories (DETAIl Prize, Special Prize - Detail Inside, Structure, Readers' Prize) by the DETAIL editorial team in line with their main focus. Outstanding interdisciplinary projects with an interdisciplinary concept which stand out on account of their individual detail solutions and high-quality architecture and impress will be nominated by the DETAIL editorial team for the grand prize, the DETAIL Prize.
In a second step, a renowned interdisciplinary and international jury will on 19 July 2016 behind closed doors in Munich select from among the nominations the respective winners of each category of the DETAIL Prize 2016. The best projects nominated for the main prize and the prize-winning projects in each category will be publicly presented by the respective office at a presentation event in Berlin on Friday, 11 November 2016 in the morning. The presentation is obligatory in the case of a nomination or a designation to the winner.
The prize-winners will be handed their awards at a festive award ceremony to be held on the evening of 11 November 2016 with invited guests from architecture, industry, politics and business. An exhibition on the DETAIL Prize 2016 at BAU 2017, the world's leading trade fair for architecture, materials and systems in Munich between 16 and 21 January 2017 will round off the presentation of the projects.

The competition will be organized and run by the Institut für internationale Architektur-Dokumentation without recourse to the ordinary courts of law. There shall be no legal right to participation.

The prize is awarded in four categories:
A building that is especially characterized by well-designed, future-oriented and technically-innovative details within an outstanding overall concept.
